Fishing Law in UAE

In order to regulate the fishing legislation and laws of the United Arab Emirates and to limit illegal overfishing, the Government of the United Arab Emirates has enacted several laws regulating fishing grounds in the United Arab Emirates and the species they are permitted to catch, and defining the specifications of fishing gear and areas where fishing is prohibited, as well as determining fishing seasons in the Emirates. These laws include the following:

  • Protection and development of living water resources in the United Arab Emirates
  • Application of administrative sanctions schedules for violations of regulations on living water and fish resources
  • Temporary suspension of the issuance of a new fishing boat licence
  • Regulatory and sanitary requirements for the circulation of salted (salty) fish
  • Regulation of the manufacture
  • Regulation of Lethrinus fish fishing and marketing during the breeding season
  • Prevention of the catch, sale and marketing of small-scale fish below the permitted limit
  • Regulation surface fishing with nets by pressing method
  • Construction of the artificial substructions
  • Prohibition of fishing and marketing of Gerres fish in Abu Dhabi
  • Regulation of shark fishing and trade
  • Prohibition of the use of ….in fishing waters in Abu Dhabi
  • Regulation of fixed equipment fishing in Abu Dhabi
  • Regulation surface fishing by shaving nets (hedge)
